Bottom-up, top-down, and transversally-across. Artistic institutions of the commons.
Bottom-up. In Warsaw artists take to the streets in protests against raising fascism. In London art-activists liberate Tate in protests against art washing. In Venice art workers occupy medieval salt docs, and establish there alternative art centre.
Top-down. In Warsaw, Museum of Modern Art tests in practice curatorial open form. In Middlesbrough, in North-East of England, local art centre is transformed into a museum 3.0, useful for the inhabitants of this post-industrial town. In Madrid, the Reina Sofia Museum establishes archives of commons, in cooperation with networks of independent archivists. In Eindhoven, Vanabbe Museum deconstructs modernist conventions of the institution of art, becomes a platform for postcolonial critique.
Transversally-across. Artistic institutions of the commons emerge in result of the crossover between artistic self-organisation and institutional renewal, joined through shared resistance against the art world of 1%, which impoverishes multitudes in servitude to global plutocracies.

Cognitive Mapping Workshops
Choices and consequences. Art academy, art market, artistic self-organisation.
Using cognitive mapping tools, we will collectively identify and map future trajectories of fine art students. We will think about the alternative modes of organising artistic practice – like art market or self-organised art initiatives – not only as systemic alternatives, but also in terms of personal choices. The aim will be to get a better set of coordinates, while rethinking the role of academy in reproducing differing economic systems and their organic ideologies.
KUBA SZREDER PhD, lecturer at the department of art theory at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He combines his research into the political economy of contemporary artistic production with interdisciplinary experiments, hybridizing art with other domains of life.
