Oramics was created in 2017 as a platform to empower women, non-binary and queer people in the electronic music scene, then it evolved into an independent booking agency representing Mala Herba, dogheadsurigeri, Avtomat, Monster, ISNT and Olivia. We work mostly in Poland where we are from but our crew is based also in the Netherlands, Austria and France. The vital part of our activity is to support other struggling communities and also music and artists from our region (eastern and central Europe) - they are underrepresented in general. Besides our online activity, we curate club nights and concerts, co-curate festivals and other events, showcasing the most interesting artists on the Polish scene. We run club nights at Projekt LAB club in Poznań, Ziemia club in Gdańsk and Szpitalna 1 in Cracow and curate KO:BITY Festival in Toruń. Artists from our roster performed at festivals such as Unsound, Tauron Nowa Muzyka, Sacrum Profanum, Rhizom, Instytut, Audioriver and played in renowned venues across Europe such as Tresor, Macao, Ankali, Dalston Superstore, De School or Cafe OTO. We run a podcast series dedicated to artists from mentioned groups, artists who recorded mixes for us were i.a. Noncompliant, Loraine James, Nazira, Violet, La Fraicheur, Aleksa Alaska and more. Electronic Beats said “Oramics‘ podcast series is quickly becoming a favourite here at Electronic Beats HQ.” We also organize workshops - with a safe, inviting space and a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the gear and knowledge that is not readily available. We’ve organized DJing workshops (CDJ and vinyl) as well as production workshops (Ableton, drum machines, synthesizers, mobile apps for making music etc.). In August 2019, in the aftermath of attacks on Białystok Pride March we have released a 126-track charity compilation called “Total Solidarity”, which combines tracks from the most renowned electronic artists around the world as well as a lot of Polish underground music - all in a bid to raise money for grassroots LGBTQ+ organizations from smaller cities in Poland. It attracted major press interest, including from the likes of Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Mixmag, DJMag, FACT, The Wire, etc. https://oramics.pl. https://soundcloud.com/oramicspl.
Artist Talk
The main focus of Oramics is building a platform to empower femme, non-binary and queer artists on the electronic music scene. However, our feminism is intersectional and we are aware of our positionality, that includes white-washing of electronic music in Europe on one hand and xenophobia towards Central and Eastern Europe on the other hand, that leads to lack of representation in the global music landscape. During this lecture we would like to discuss our tactics to collectively build a music scene that is inclusive, sustainable and exercises solidarity. We will gladly share our logistics and artistic solutions and discuss our successes and mistakes in hope for an interesting discussion afterwards.
