Terra Ignota: Art, Nature, and Research through Clouds
Nicolás Spencer will share the creative and research processes behind *Terra Ignota*, a transdisciplinary research platform exploring the relationships between culture, nature, knowledge, and their various forms of representation. Initiated in 2015, Terra Ignota emerged from gatherings of a dynamic group of artists, scientists, curators, and producers, centered around a recurring nomadic laboratory in the southernmost region of the Americas.
NICOLÁS SPENCER
Spencer’s work explores the vastness and complexity of nature through a holistic approach that merges art, environment, and technology. Viewing the environment as a form of technology, he adapts to natural forces and draws inspiration from the cosmos. Beyond merely observing nature, he critically examines our diverse relationships with it, offering new perspectives in art, science, technology, heritage, society, and indigenous cultures. His installations balance the weight and scale of materials like rocks, metals, gravity, and wind with the delicacy and materiality of sound.
Spencer’s artistic practice weaves together multiple fields of knowledge, generating alternative epistemological and aesthetic perspectives. His work has recently been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chile and the Weltmuseum in Vienna, Austria. He is currently developing the Terra Ignota project in Fuego Patagonia.
