For Kotěra personally, however, the American trip in 1904 had a significant impact in terms of boosting his professional capital. He established himself as a capable and inventive designer and organizer of international exhibitions. In addition to the exhibition in Munich in 1905, he designed a presentation for the forestry exhibition in Vienna in 1910, organized for the 80th birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph I, as well as the Austrian pavilion at the International Art Exhibition in Munich in 1913. The three surviving designs show that the representation and spaces dedicated to individual Austrian artists or collectives changed significantly, but it was likely due to Kotěra’s efforts that the Czech representatives retained their original allocation—Preisler and his school had one hall, while Švabinský had two.45 As Kotěra later reported to Josef Fanta, he was involved in many other foreign Czech presentations as part of Austrian participation in international exhibitions, including those in London, Venice, and Rome.
