Workshop with Dominika Trapp, Friday and Saturday 25 and 26 Nov 2022. A call for participation
The workshop with Dominika Trapp is organised as part of the Fine Art and Design programme and is held in English. This workshop is also available for students of the Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts programme. If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please contact MgA. Lenka Veselá, MA: xvveselal@favu.vut.cz. A capacity of the course is 6 persons. The Workshop will take place on 25 and 26 November 2022 in room 216 (U2). The workshop starts at 10am on both days (with estimated duration of 8 hours each day). It is recommended to bring a laptop (tablet), notebook and writing utensils to the first day of the workshop. The hands-on outputs will be realized during the second day of the workshop in media to be specified in a group discussion during the first day.
Abstract
Trapping is a secondary hunting technology, the objects associated with it are not designed for aesthetic purposes, they are entirely functional. However, these ephemeral structures are sites of transformative encounters, portals linking humans to animals, technology to landscape, and death to life. They are also ambivalent in their perception, as they can be seen both as devices that avoid personal confrontation and insidiously delegate human actions, and as early automatons, the precursors of emancipatory technological leaps. The trap as a dimension gate that snatches things out and changes them forever has a very diverse metaphorical magnitude associated with it, which we will try to explore as broadly as possible in my workshop, through a consensual selection of media.
Author
Dominika Trapp (1988, Budapest) graduated from the painting department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2012. Her practice has been characterized by a two-way interest: on the one hand, a sensitive painterly approach that allows for intuition and introspection; and, on the other hand, an outward-directed sensitivity that facilitates dialogues between communities in the service of collective self-knowledge. Her works often address topics such as the relationship between tradition and contemporary culture, women’s fate in traditional Hungarian peasant communities, the historical context of eating disorders, or painting as a possible somatic method for artistic research. More recently, she has participated in the residency programs of Art in General in New York, the Erste Stiftung in Vienna, and FUTURA in Prague. In 2020, her solo exhibition was presented at Trafó Gallery in Budapest and at Karlin Studios in Prague. In 2021, she participated at the 14th Baltic Triennial in Vilnius and in 2022, at the Manifesta 14 Prishtina. She is currently a multimedia art fellow at the Doctoral School of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
