Our Alumni
The Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) of Brno University of Technology (BUT) is the oldest art faculty at a non-artistic university in the Czech Republic, having been established on January 1, 1993. With its inception, the FFA made history by becoming the first art faculty created to provide a much-needed counterbalance to educational and cultural centralism. The FFA graduated its first Master's degree students in 1998 (Bachelor's two years earlier). Currently, the faculty has 869 MA graduates, 47 PhD graduates, and 875 BA graduates (more than 575 of whom pursued further studies in the FFA Master's programme). Graduate exhibitions, for which a bilingual catalogue is published, are held annually during the summer in cooperation with the Brno House of Arts at the House of the Lords of Kunštát.
Since 2019, the faculty has been cooperating more actively with its graduates and maintaining closer ties with them, for example, by approaching them with job offers such as working on the graduation exhibition (curating, exhibition architecture, graphic design, photography), invitations to assessment committees for final exams, etc. To maintain these ties, graduates can register through the form provided below. In cooperation with the Brno House of Arts, the FFA also offers selected graduates the opportunity for a two-month residency at the House of the Lords of Kunštát each autumn, ending with an exhibition in Gallery G99 produced by the Brno House of Arts. The call is published annually at the beginning of May. Another supportive programme introduced by the faculty in cooperation with Open Studios Brno since 2021 is the opportunity for a one-year free provision of a studio in the Kraví hora area. Over the past four years, the faculty has also been offering favorable rentals of studio spaces and the use of specialized workplaces and workshops during the summer holidays to its graduates. Another option for final-year students on how to spend their time after graduation is to apply for an Erasmus+ graduate internship. Graduates who decide to join the Orgán association (founded by students of the faculty) have the opportunity to participate in and co-decide on the activities of the faculty student club. Since 2021, selected graduates have also had the opportunity to attend tuition-free classes in the Visiting Artist’s Studio. As part of the Dean's Award for faculty graduates, since 2021, there has been a monthly residency at the Nová Perla art center. In 2023, the faculty established a new alumni FFA Post-doc/Post-mag Programme, aimed at supporting the involvement of recent graduates in professional life and, at the same time, supporting the development of creative (artistic, research, or innovative) activities of the faculty. The programme consists of the creation of short-term job positions, which are filled based on annually repeated open calls. Since 2023, the faculty has been organizing the Rooted Everywhere Symposium in collaboration with the všuderajče collective, connecting students and alumni of the faculty.
As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the faculty (2023), most graduates were approached by means of a questionnaire survey, the result of which was a publication created in cooperation with the organization Nora, and a vinyl record. The community part of the celebrations also included personal live meetings and mutual sharing, for example, the FFA Gala Ball, organized by students, the FFA Reunion Party weekend meeting of alumni, and the opening of an exhibition called If On a Fall Morning a Student at the House of the Lords of Kunštát (the Brno House of Arts). In collaboration with Open Studios, as part of the celebrations, visits to the studios of our alumni were offered, meetings with our authors represented in Artoteque took place at the Moravian Gallery in Brno, and presentations of our alumni or summer schools led by them were also introduced.
