Workshop: Robert B. Lisek – Artificial Intelligence for Music and Art, April 27, 2023 at 12:00 PM; U2/206 (audiostudio), FaVU, Udolni 53, Brno
The Audiovisual Technology Department of FaVU VUT invites you to a workshop by Polish artist, mathematician, and meta-composer Robert B. Lisek. The lecture and workshop will introduce methods of artificial intelligence for the creation of sound, image, performance, immersive installations, and interactive media. Lisek will critically examine intercultural notions of privacy, representation, and trust in relation to artificial intelligence and other data-based technologies. The workshop will present the basics of artificial intelligence and its applications for artists, composers, and musicians through practical examples in Python, Supercollider, Pure Data, and Max/MSP languages.
Key research questions: How does the process of losing freedom occur in a world mediated by artificial intelligence? What does decision-making in dynamic UI environments mean? What corporate and government policies and practices reinforce this process? What methods and regulations can be used to suppress and ethically control these processes? How can we expose these surveillance processes and develop user awareness and response to them?
Robert B. Lisek is an artist, mathematician, and composer focusing on systems, networks, and processes (computer, biological, social). He is involved in a variety of projects related to media art, storytelling, and interactive art. His work draws from post-conceptual art, software art, and metamedia, deliberately defying categorization. Lisek is a pioneer in art based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. He is also a contemporary music composer, authoring numerous projects and scores on the border of spectral, stochastic, concrete music, musica futurista, and noise. He conducts research in the foundations of science (mathematics and computer science), with one of his main research interests being category theory and higher-order algebra in relation to artificial intelligence. Lisek is the founder of the Fundamental Research Lab and ACCESS Art Symposium. He is the author of numerous exhibitions and presentations.
