Call for papers: Symposium Re-Reading the Contemporary Press / Constructing Art, Architecture and Social Histories

Call for Papers and Artistic Research submissions:

In our practice as historians, we often tend to think that the contemporary press mirrors the historical reality and therefore is an objective source of information. However, it has been shaped by particular and collective political and economic interests, or, sometimes, random decisions. The symposium will examine critical approaches to the contemporary press as a tool of art, architectural and social histories and, when looking at the margins of society, the way we can deal with the lack of representation in media in specific research topics. The focus of the symposium is historical contemporary press, however, the line between history, memory and the present is up to the individual conceptualization of each proposed paper/presentation.

Call for papers:

  • We invite research papers dealing with methods of critical reading of historical press and its interpretations, case studies using these methods, etc., in the length of 20 minutes
  • Abstracts (max 800 characters) of proposed papers with a title, name, affiliation and email address are welcome
  • Deadline for submissions: August 31, 2023, email: jackson@favu.vut.cz
  • Selected papers will be announced by September 15, 2023
  • Selected presenters will be reimbursed 150 EUR (ca 3500 CZK) for travel costs

Call for Artistic Research presentations:

  • We invite presentations of artistic research on topics related to the symposium theme in the length of 20 minutes
  • Abstracts (max 800 characters) of proposed presentations with a title, name, affiliation and email address are welcome
  • Deadline for submissions: August 31, 2023, email: jackson@favu.vut.cz
  • Selected papers will be announced by September 15, 2023
  • Selected presenters will be reimbursed 150 EUR (ca 3500 CZK) for travel costs
