Workshop with Curatorial Studio Shimmer for FFA Students, 10–11 Dec 2024
Workshop with the curatorial studio Shimmer (Eloise Sweetman and Jason Hendrik Hansma)
December 10–11, 2024, FFA BUT, Údolní 53, Brno (room and time TBA)
Curator and writer Eloise Sweetman and artist Jason Hendrik Hansma co-curate Shimmer, a curatorial studio based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Their workshop focuses on exhibition-making, exploring the roles of artist-as-curator, curator-as-artist, and everything in between. Together with participants, they aim to delve into the possibilities and meanings behind these roles. Through hands-on exercises and discussions, the workshop will examine the diverse dimensions of exhibition-making—ranging from the concept of the empty room to exhibitions imagined in the mind’s eye, cabinets of curiosities, personal collections, and even the unintentional or overlooked practices of curating. Over the course of two intensive days, participants will engage with topics such as power dynamics, DIY approaches, alternative methods for collaborating with peers, and, most importantly, building community through curatorial practice.
Further details about the workshop, along with a short excerpt from their book Manual of Undoing to read in preparation, will be shared through a dedicated MS Team.
To secure your spot in the workshop, please contact Lenka Veselá. Students enrolled in the Workshop 1 course are registered automatically.
The workshop is held with financial support from the European Union through the National Recovery Plan and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
