Internal Competition – Support for Publishing Practice-Based Research in Art and Design, app. deadline 7 April 2025
The Dean of FFA BUT announces the internal competition to support practice-based research activities of doctoral students and academic and research staff at FFA BUT. The competition focuses on publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals that utilize the innovative format of an exposition in the Research Catalogue (RC). These include journals operating under the platform, such as The Journal for Artistic Research (JAR), RUUKKU – Studies in Artistic Research, VIS – Nordic Journal for Artistic Research, The Journal for Sonic Studies, or HUB – Journal of Research in Art, Design and Society. Publications in these journals are not purely theoretical studies but present results of research through artistic or design practice, combining text, visual materials, and audiovisual content.
Timeline
- project submission: March 7 – April 7, 2025 (on-line);
- project evaluation: April 8–11, 2025;
- results announcement: by April 15, 2025;
- project completion: by September 1, 2025 (successful completion means submitting materials for the creation of an exposition, which will then be prepared for submission in the selected journal in collaboration with FFA portal administrators and the graphic team).
Eligibility and Conditions
The competition is open to all doctoral students and academic and research staff of FFA BUT who maintain an active affiliation with the faculty throughout the project. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted by an individual or team. The supported project must aim for publication in the exposition format in one of the above-mentioned journals. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the types of works published in these journals and tailor their application to the specific format of RC. Editing the submission into an exposition format is not required from applicants—the expositions will be created in collaboration with FFA portal administrators and the graphic team after the submission of materials.
Maximum funding per project: 20,000 CZK. Applicants must have fulfilled previous publishing commitments from past projects before applying.
Application Process and Evaluation Criteria
Applications are submitted online at: https://forms.gle/tbpr6dPqfKwdtpbDA. Login requires a BUT university account (VUTlogin@vutbr.cz). If login issues occur, it is recommended to open the link in an incognito browser window and log in manually.
Applications will be evaluated by the faculty’s editorial board. Evaluation criteria include the applicant's past artistic and research activities, significance of the research topic, quality of the research proposal (project objectives, methodology), suitability of the research project for publication in the exposition format, level of project development.
