Pavel Ryška's book Háček + Čárka was published by FFA BUT and Paseka publishing house
The comic series Háček + Čárka was published on the last page of Sluníčko from 1972 to 1974. Although it was a magazine for preschoolers, Jaroslav Malák's original comic was not a typical picture story for the youngest readers. It introduced a pair of children who realized they were starring 'in some series.' Their adventures can thus be read in various ways: as a cheerful picture series, a play with the expressive means of the comic medium, or as an unexpected insight into Czechoslovak society at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. In any case, it is a unique testament to the mature level that comics had achieved in our country already fifty years ago.
Jaroslav Malák (1928–2012) was a painter and illustrator, and the author of several comic series. He collaborated with children's magazines such as Mateřídouška and Sluníčko, and contributed to Dikobraz and Mladý svět. He drew the popular comic Polda and Olda, published in Čtyřlístek, and in the magazine Ahoj na sobotu, he published the romantic comic novel Břetislav and Jitka.
The complete book edition of the stories of Háček and Čárka is accompanied by an extensive study by Pavel Ryška on Malák's work, illustrated with rich visual material.
The book can be purchased at the FFA library, from the co-publisher, and through regular distribution channels for 399 CZK. For FFA students, the book is available at a discounted price of 250 CZK in the FFA library.Háček + Čárka
