The new visual identity of Prague Integrated Transport won a prestigious Red Dot Award
The new visual design of Prague Integrated Transport (PID) was created by the design studio superlative.works. It is composed of Petr Štěpán, Bohumil Vašák and Mikuláš Macháček, who works at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology. In one of the world’s largest design competitions, this design trio succeeded with their modern and clean graphic solution of the entire system. They won the "Red Dot Winner" award in the Corporate Design and Identity category. The aim of the competition, under the auspices of Czechdesign, from which the new graphic design emerged two years ago, was to present public transport service as modern, but above all clear and interconnected 21st-century system, to simplify navigation during travel so that passengers always intuitively find all necessary information in the same or similar places, in all types of transport and regardless of the operator.
At that time, the jury was most impressed by its distinctiveness, expressiveness, and its colourfulness and simplicity. For Prague, they chose the symbolic red colour, which is, among other things, the traditional colour of the iconic T3 tram. Red is also the colour of the logo of the capital city. The most prominent feature on the vehicles are the red vertical stripes.
“The new visual style of Prague Integrated Transport was approved just last June, but even before that, its authors from superlative.works were working on a new manual, which we are now gradually applying to individual vehicles, as well as to various informational materials or promotional prints, and the new PID logo is now regularly used in all communication," says ROPID Director Petr Tomčík.
The authors of the design are still in close contact with the Prague authorities. This is because new types of vehicles are constantly being developed, for which it is necessary to prepare a detailed manual even before the production of such a bus or train.
