The Doctoral Studies Board serves as the principal professional, supervisory, and evaluative body for postgraduate studies at the faculty. Its competencies are defined by the Czech Higher Education Act (Section 47) and the internal regulations of both the university and the faculty. The Board comprises 13 members, at least five of whom are not members of the university’s academic community. The Dean appoints and dismisses these members, subject to approval by the faculty’s Artistic Board. The Board’s primary responsibilities include overseeing and evaluating ongoing doctoral studies, supporting the continuous updating and development of doctoral programmes, approving proposals for general dissertation topics or thematic areas—as well as their respective supervisors—prior to applicants being admitted, and approving specialist supervisors and consultants for dissertation theses upon the recommendation of supervisors once applicants have been accepted. Furthermore, the Board approves individual study plans for doctoral candidates and any subsequent amendments to these plans, proposes the composition of committees for entrance examinations, state doctoral examinations, and dissertation defences, approves dissertation opponents, and performs other tasks arising from the internal regulations of both the faculty and the university.
