Internal Competition – Publishing, app. deadline 6 Jan 2025
The Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Brno University of Technology (BUT), announces an internal competition aimed at supporting book publication. The competition is open to FFA BUT academic and research staff, students (enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes), FFA BUT alumni, and external applicants.
Key Dates:
- Project submissions: October 1, 2024 – January 6, 2025 (on-line);
- Project evaluations: January 7–27, 2025;
- Announcement of results: by January 31, 2025;
- Financial closure: first half of November 2025 (for one-year projects) and 2026 (for two-year projects), with specific dates provided annually by the faculty’s finance department.
The competition aims to support the publication of both printed and electronic works in the years 2025–2026.
Eligibility: Academic and research staff, students (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programmes), FFA BUT alumni, and external applicants. Applicants must fulfil any previous commitments related to publishing unless otherwise agreed with the faculty management. Priority will be given to publications where FFA BUT is the (co-)publisher. The principal funding recipient is responsible for the academic quality of the manuscript, the high standard of graphic design, the appropriate use of funds, and adherence to labour and copyright laws. Faculty staff and students are required to list their affiliation with FFA BUT. For one-year projects, published works must be submitted to the Apollo BUT system or the Registry of Artistic Outputs by February 2026; for two-year projects, the deadline is February 2027.
There is no upper funding limit for projects.
Priority will be given to:
- Peer-reviewed monographs;
- Art books;
- Textbooks for FFA BUT courses.
If submissions in these categories are insufficient, other types of publications, including catalogues and experimental works, will also be considered.
The Vice-Dean for Publication Activity is available for consultations regarding application submissions and project details.
Application Process and Evaluation Criteria:
- Applications must be submitted online at: https://forms.gle/dAzfNPMwjntXhqe17. Use your BUTlogin and BUTpassword (in the format BUTlogin@vutbr.cz). If you encounter login issues, try opening the link in an anonymous browser window and sign in using the University credentials.
- Applications must include a description of the publication, a list of contributors, a detailed project timeline, cost estimates, and information on the intended method of publication.
- Applications will be reviewed by the Faculty's Editorial Board.
- The evaluation criteria include adherence to competition guidelines, the manuscript's readiness for publication, the importance of the work for advancing FFA BUT's creative, research, and artistic endeavours, its potential to elevate the FFA BUT's excellence, its contribution to the Humanities and the Arts (FORD 6), cost feasibility, and the applicant's (or project team's) prior publishing experience.
