Centenary of the birth of Igor Zhoř, co-founder of FFA
Sunday, 9 March 2025 will mark the centenary of the birth of Igor Zhoř, art theorist and one of the co-founders of FFA BUT.
Igor Zhoř (9 March 1925 – 22 November 1997) ranks among the most significant figures in Brno’s artistic and cultural history. He founded the association Mladí přátelé výtvarného umění, was the first curator of the Galerie Jaroslava Krále, played a key role in establishing the Galerie mladých, and consistently supported various artistic groups. In 1992, together with Ivan Ruller and Vladimír Preclík, he was instrumental in founding the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology, where he also served as head of the Department of Art History and Theory. In 1997 he became Dean of the Faculty, although he held this position only briefly.
To mark this anniversary, a publication entitled Výtvarné Brno Igora Zhoře 1957–1997 (authored by Radek Horáček and Markéta Peringerová) has been released, a commemorative plaque will be unveiled, and a new exhibition dedicated to Zhoř’s legacy is being prepared at the Brno House of Art. Additionally, the anniversary was commemorated by the programme Večer na téma on Radio Vltava (available in Czech only).
