The Association of Faculties in Audiovisual was established
Five arts faculties teaching practical study programmes in the field of audio-visuals signed a memorandum of cooperation on the 20th of October 2023. The Theatre Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, the Faculty of Design and Art of Ladislav Sutnar at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology, the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, and the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague laid the foundations for intensive cooperation between academic institutions in the field of audio-visuals.
The aim of the memorandum, which was signed at the Regional Library of Vysočina in Havlíčkův Brod, a place where the paths between the participating faculties of five public universities intersect, is to mutually coordinate and systematize steps aimed at improving the conditions for studying various aspects and professions of audio-visuals and the operation of arts and creative industries into which the faculty graduates enter. The first practical step was the collaboration on commenting on the proposed amendment to the Audiovisual Law. The group of art faculties will share knowledge and good practices in teaching study programmes and practical school production, coordinate the nomination of experts to key institutions and bodies, and develop a platform for mutual communication and exchange of experiences, based on common values and intentions in the interest of cultivating conditions for activities in audio-visuals in the Czech Republic.
Among the agendas where the faculties' impact and functioning meet, which were the subject of the first meeting of the association, are the financing of public universities and art higher education institutions, practical teaching and facilities for it, possibilities for financing within EU operational programmes and other grant schemes, study and practical internships for students, the Register of Artistic Outputs, various forms of audio-visuals from cinematic works to television production to moving image in galleries and computer games, and the specific needs of these areas of practice and knowledge, including artistic research.
"With the affiliated faculties, we share many priorities and challenges and have been communicating informally for several years, sharing our experiences and advising each other. Working together on commenting on the proposed amendment to the Audiovisual Law, we had the opportunity to see that our voice is better heard when we promote ideas and measures together. Collaboration and coordination is the way to a healthy environment where the development and support of the professional community are more possible, as well as supporting the upcoming generation in various audio-visual professions," expressed in a joint statement by the deans of the involved faculties.
