Artist talk

ruangrupa will talk about collective processes and ecosystem building, through institutional practice in Indonesia, as well as negotiating constantly with other forces, such as documenta fifteen in Kassel.

RUANGRUPA

ruangrupa is a Jakarta based collective founded in 2020 by a group of artists as a response to the lack of space in which artists could work intensively and can analyze, mediate and furnish rather than focusing on the means of artistic production. As a non-profit organization their work and activities link art, social science, politics, technology and media to critically and analytically comment on contemporary issues in a form of exhibitions, festivals, art labs, workshops, publishing, research and education.
As an collective, their work and activities have contributed in projects including institutions and exhibitions such the Istanbul Biennal, Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Singapore Bienalle, São Paulo Biennal, Centre Pompidou and others. ruangrupa is currently the Artistic Direction of the fifteenth edition of documenta in Kassel, where they build artistic and economic models based on principles of collectivity, resource sharing, friendship and equality.
