FOUR MODELS
The publication Four Models explores the application of the concept of model in the works of selected authors within the contemporary Czech and Slovak artistic context. It draws loosely on knowledge acquired through previous professional research in the field. The publication proposes and presents a new categorization of the term “model,” dividing it into four categories: the linear model, the physical model, the cognitive model, and the immersive model. The linear model encompasses the thematization of sketches and the use of visualization metaphors such as graphs, diagrams, and schemes. It emerges as a response to information overload and complex networks. The physical model is a form associated with architectural and hobby modelling, characterized by a simple “sketch” structure that responds to social themes and individual and collective memory. The cognitive model relates to the cognitive shift in society, evaluating the materialization of mental space and explaining the emancipated model as an open category. Lastly, the immersive model interprets the medium of the exhibition as a model form articulated by an artistic manifesto or architectural intervention. The chapter on immersive models also discusses another form of immersion, involving photographic and 3D computer illusions, as a response to the virtualization of society.
