Veronika Vlková & Jan Šrámek from FFA are the illustrators of the year 2020
The first place in the Illustrator of the Year category went to Jan Šrámek from the Video Studio and graduate Veronika Vlková, both from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the BUT. The jury was impressed by their illustration work for the book Apolenka z modrotisku (Romana Košutková, Gallery of Fine Arts in Hodonín). Jan Šrámek has already won this award in the past and in tandem with Veronika Vlková they also scored at the International Children's Book Fair in Bologna 2020. Among their award-winning works are the illustrations for the book This is the Metro, man!This year's award-winning book, Apolenka z modrotisku, is a fairytale story for children, introducing the technology of traditional blueprint production. It is a project of the Children's Studio of the Hodonín Gallery, which introduces the visitor to the phenomenon of this traditional craft and the production technique in a simple and attractive way.
Czech Grand Design is chosen by members of the Czech Design Academy, who judge works in the field of fashion, jewellery, photography, illustration, product or graphic design. This year, a total of 84 authors competed for this award. A recording of the award ceremony can be viewed here.
