On the project
The project explores the widespread sense of alienation, nihilism, and post-ironic attitudes often tied to Generation Z. It examines how niche visual cultures on Instagram, such as nostalgiacore, liminalcore, dreamcore or weirdcore reflect perceptions of the past and dreams of the future. Through content analysis, the project investigates how these aesthetic trends function within algorithm-driven systems where every gesture becomes data. Can such systems be romanticized or aestheticized, and if so, how?
