Invalidovna: A Housing Estate with a Human Scale

Invalidovna nebyla prvním sídlištěm v Praze, ani se zde poprvé neuplatnily panelové soustavy. Sídliště Invalidovna je přesto jedinečné. Pro vystižení jeho jedinečnosti se hodí strukturalistická teze, že celek je vždy víc, než součet částí, které ho tvoří. Sídliště Invalidovna vznikalo v jedinečné době: po sídlišti Červený Vrch nebo několika prvních pražských objektech z prefabrikovaných panelů v Michli se začala v Praze hledat území, která by navázala na stávající zástavbu na vnějším okraji města a současně by fungovala jako samostatné urbánní jednotky. Jedním těchto území bylo prostranství za blokovou zástavbou Karlína z 19. století a strukturou barokní invalidovny. Toto území lákalo už meziválečné urbanisty, avšak teprve až v situaci, kdy se stát stal výhradním investorem, stavitelem i územním plánovačem a kdy se po sovětském vzoru zaměřil na cizelaci a plošné uplatnění stavební typizace, mohly se avantgardní vize „strojů na bydlení“ a „slunečních měst“ vystavěných na zelené louce stát skutečností.

The Invalidovna Housing Estate was not the first housing estate in Prague, nor were panel systems used here for the first time. The Invalidovna Housing Estate is nevertheless unique. To capture its uniqueness, the structuralist thesis that the whole is always more than the sum of the parts that make it up is suitable. The Invalidovna Housing Estate was established at a unique time: after the Červený Vrch housing estate or the first few Prague buildings made of prefabricated panels in Michle, land began to be sought in Prague that would build on existing buildings on the outer outskirts of the city and function as separate urban units. One of these areas was the area behind the block of flats of Karlín from the 19th century and the structure of the Baroque invalid hospital. This territory already attracted interwar urban planners, but only in a situation where the state became the sole investor, builder and spatial planner and focused on chiseling and the widespread application of building typification, the avant-garde visions of "housing machines" and "housing machines" solar cities ”built on a green field become a reality.
