Co materiály chtějí? Agence betonu, oceli a skla v díle Jaroslava J. Polívky mezi Evropou a Amerikou. Ocel a sklo jsou v moderní architektuře velmi populární, ale z technického hlediska se jedná o zcela nevhodnou kombinaci, myslel si architekt a konstruktér Jaroslav J. Polívka. Přesto je autorem konstrukce československých pavilonů na světových výstavách v Paříži a New Yorku, kde dominovala ocelová konstrukce kombinovaná se skleněnými tvárnicemi. V případě betonu se celý život snažil prosadit typizaci železobetonových prvků, přesto jsou jeho nejslavnější projekty založeny na jedinečném tvarovém gestu, odporujícím veškerým systémovým ekonomizačním snahám. Pokud volba materiálů a jejich tvarování a kombinace tedy v případě jeho nejslavnějších projektů nebyla tvůrčím rozhodnutím, jaká jiná rozhodnutí a zájmy za ní stály? Přednáška na příkladu Jaroslava Polívky prozkoumá interpretační možnosti materialitních přístupů v dějinách moderní architektury

English abstract

Steel and glass are very popular in modern architecture, but from a technical point of view it is a completely unsuitable combination, thought the architect and designer Jaroslav J. Polívka. Nevertheless, he is the author of the construction of Czechoslovak pavilions at world exhibitions in Paris and New York, where a steel structure combined with glass blocks dominated. In the case of concrete, he has tried all his life to enforce the typification of reinforced concrete elements, yet his most famous projects are based on a unique shape gesture, contrary to all systemic economic efforts. If the choice of materials and their shaping and combination were not a creative decision in the case of his most famous projects, what other decisions and interests were behind it? The lecture on the example of Jaroslav Polívka will explore the interpretive possibilities of materialistic approaches in the history of modern architecture.
