Studio Follow-up II - Drawing and Printmaking - winter

The course has a conceptual character and requires extensive knowledge of the contemporary art environment and contemporary tendencies in drawing and graphics. It is fully focused on the students' final project in all its complexity. Students keep developing their experience with various types of creativity and a diverse range of expression. The course focuses on mastering techniques and tools of visual and art 'coding' along with ability to finalize and present own project. The resulting project is extensively developed during the winter semester and it has been a subject of intensive consultations and confronted with the opinions of invited experts.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The master program's final project should be in progress. Advanced knowledge of graphic techniques and ability to use them for expressing individual authorship in the contemporary art environment. Professional knowledge of contemporary art, flexible usage of various media, ability to exhibit own art independently and the ability to utilize materiality and object in the context of drawing and graphics. Ability to articulate own individual themes relevant for the discourse about contemporary art as well as for the tradition of drawing and graphics.

Researched project for master degree final exam. Advanced knowledge of graphic techniques and ability to use them for expressing individual authorship in the contemporary art environment. Professional knowledge of contemporary art.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

At the beginning of the semester, the initiation of artistic research and consultation of pre-arranged individual themes takes place.The course is followed by regular group consultations of the supervisor and assistant of the atelier with the students over the approved semestral assignments. During the semester, individual tasks are individually assigned for each student or year.Regular presentations of completed semester work by external professionals.Part of the lessons are technological workshops for the semester (theme).Work on projects, visits to exhibitions and commented tours, plenipotentiaries.Teachers encourage students to actively discuss and present their work results. Both in the school field and in the gallery art practice. Student works, presentations, lectures, tutorials, debates, excursions, study of literature.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In order to receive credit for the class, given conditions must be met:

-presence and participation in all mandatory regular consultations of semester projects (once a week)
-active participation in regular atelier projects and their consequent presentation (twice per semester)
-ability to reflect/accept recommendations resulting from consultations of semester projects
-fulfilling given tasks
-participation in atelier workshops and collaborative projects
-participation in the plenary
-evident interest in contemporary art

Presence is confirmed by signing the attendance list. One unexcused absence is allowed per semester.

Atelier exam is evaluated by a commission.

Course curriculum

Independent and continuous studio work on the own magister project, regular studio consultations with the studio leader (every week), participation on the joint studio projects, active participation in the regular studio critiques (usually 2 per semester), participation in joint studio workshops, extracurricular art activities.

Schedule:
1. Definition of the topic of artistic research or the author's project (alteration in the form of a possible atelier assignment).
2. Brainstorming, artistic research, experimentation, verification, variation.
3. Presentation and defense of studio criticism.
4. Participation in all joint events - namely plain-air workshop, studio workshops, excursions and events according to the program of the entire studio.
5. Installation, presentation and defense of semestral work.
6. Participation in a public presentation on an open day.

Aims

This intermedially focused course teaches students to conceptually grasp classic drawing and printmedia in response to current socio-political events and to advanced orientation in contemporary art. Through long-term creative artistic research the student adequately develops, verifies and critically thematize precisely defined topics linked to the focus of the studio. Its aim is realization of practical diploma project. Student woks individually in the studio and constructively and critically analyzes the work of other artists in comparison to his own work. Partial outcomes of his diploma project are already achieved in the realized artworks.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Mandatory regular consultation of semester project (weekly), active participation and presentation of created studio works at regular studio examinations (twice per semester), participating on studio workshops and collaborative studio projects, evident interest in the contemporary art. Ongoing progress on creating master degree's final project.
Attendance list. Proven continuous work on the school premises.
A single absence at studio consultations is allowed.
