The course introduces students to the current status of the topic of game in society and culture. The role of digital and other games is positioned as a multimedia medium that influences communication across audiovisual culture. The software, distribution and communication channels used, including marketing, are analysed in the context of the games industry. The initial excursion also includes the identification of basic design elements (e.g. game mechanics, dynamics, structure) and the acquisition of professional terminology. A priority of the course is to motivate students to work with sophisticated software and to strengthen craft skills.
