Master's State Examination seminar 2

The second of three seminars serving as a support for students in preparation for the theoretical part of the master's state final exam. The basis for work in this semester is the canon of 100 selected works of art and exhibitions related to the themes of the state exam. During the semester, students will choose which work of art (or exhibition) they want to focus on. The output is a seminar paper, in which at least one of the recommended texts for state exam circles must be used for a closer presentation and interpretation of the selected art work (exhibition). After the introductory joint lessons, the work in the semester is individual and is based on consultations with teachers.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will get acquainted with the range of works of art and exhibitions relevant to the state exam topics and thus gain the basis for individual preparation for the exam. The writing of texts will strengthen the competencies in the field of writing academic texts, which students will use in the final seminar, or in writing the text part of the diploma thesis documentation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The teaching is based on the method of active learning which in this seminar is connected with individual work, including the choice of topic and the search for relevant sources for the argumentative structure of the text.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The credit is awarded on the basis of attendance in the introductory seminars, active approach to consulting and submitting a seminar paper.

Course curriculum

The semester begins with several introductory classes devoted to the presentation of the canon of selected works of art and exhibitions, from which the topics of seminar papers are derived. During these classes, relevant principles of academic writing will also be reminded, the observance of which will be required in the seminar papers. After the students choose the topic of the seminar paper, they will be assigned a consultant supervising the course of preparation and writing of the text.

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with the canon of important works of art and exhibitions related to the state examinations topics. Furthermore, the aim is to strengthen the competencies of students in the field of academic writing.

Compulsory attendance in the introductory seminars and active participation in consulting.
