Studio II - Drawing and Printmaking - summer

Students utilize acquired knowledge about drawing and graphics towards discovering new possibilities and media.
Emphasis is placed on experimental author's research leading to own discoveries built on acquired strong work morale. The core of the course consists of regular atelier consultations, intensive workshops, visiting domestic and foreign art exhibitions, plenaries and regular critical presentations of students work to external experts. At this stage, students are encouraged to work on regular basis, continually communicate and consult their work requiring strong work and creative engagement on their part.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of basic technological and artistic rules valid for the chosen major (with more advanced knowledge of graphic techniques - linocut, drycut, monotype and transfer/copier process).

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

In order to receive credit for the class, given conditions must be met:

-presence and participation in all mandatory regular consultations of semester projects (once a week)
-active participation in regular atelier projects and their consequent presentation (twice per semester)
-ability to reflect/accept recommendations resulting from consultations of semester projects
-fulfilling given tasks
-participation in atelier workshops and collaborative projects
-participation in the plenary
-evident interest in contemporary art

Presence is confirmed by signing the attendance list. One unexcused absence is allowed per semester.

Atelier exam is evaluated by a commission.


Mandatory regular consultation of semester project (weekly), active participation and presentation of created studio works at regular studio examinations (twice per semester), participating on studio workshops and collaborative studio projects, evident interest in the contemporary art.
Attendance list. Proven continuous work on the school premises.
A single absence at studio consultations is allowed.

Aims

This intermedially focused course is based on classical drawing and printmaking techniques which are constantly examined, verified and critically thematised. Its aim is to further develop individual work which student achieves by working in the studio on mostly own topics leading to the formulation of his author’s language. Student develops the ability to respond critically to the current problems of the filed discourse in a broader context, learns to be more self-confident in choosing and defending adequate artistic means and experiments with artistic cooperation.
Knowledge of basic technological and artistic rules of the main graphic techniques. Knowledge of imprint techniques. Ability to transform graphic techniques in the contemporary art into thematic and conceptual issues . Advanced experience with linear and diary small-format drawings. Practical experience with themes utilizing drawing 'genres'. Understanding the possibilities of conceptual utilization of mass reproduction graphic techniques. Knowledge of Czech and world contemporary art and related theory.

Syllabus

Independent and continuous studio work, regular studio consultations with the studio leader (every week), participation on the joint studio projects, active participation in the regular studio critiques (usually 2 per semester), participation in joint studio workshops, extracurricular art activities, presentation of semestral project in front of the commission, public presentation of the semestral project within open days Enter FaVU.

Schedule:
1. Definition of the topic of artistic research or the author's project (alteration in the form of a possible atelier assignment).
2. Brainstorming, artistic research, experimentation, verification, variation.
3. Presentation and defense of studio criticism.
4. Participation in all joint events - namely plain-air workshop, studio workshops, excursions and events according to the program of the entire studio.
5. Installation, presentation and defense of semestral work.
6. Participation in a public presentation on an open day.
