Course detail
Basics of Study Drawing 1
FaVU-1ZSKAcad. year: 2023/2024
The course is designed as a series of consecutive practical drawing exercises. Within the individual lessons, the students will be introduced to the method of depicting simple geometric objects in successive steps, either arranged individually or later composed into still lifes. The hygiene of drawing will be explained to the students – distance from the object and the picture surface, perspective, methods of measuring objects, light principles and light interaction, composing in the picture surface, etc. After mastering the drawing of simple square and cylindrical objects, the course will cover drawing from plaster casts of heads and limbs. These more challenging exercises are a direct precursor to drawing from live models.

Aims
The aim of the course is to offer the acquisition of the basics of studio drawing. The level of knowledge in this area varies considerably for students entering their first academic year. In some cases it is non-existent, which leads to great difficulty in mastering the more demanding drawing disciplines they will encounter during their studies. The course will build and reinforce the ability to successfully master studio drawing as a method of exploring reality and then transferring information about the three-dimensional world onto a two-dimensional pictorial surface. The goal of the course can also be characterized in winged words: "Sure eye, steady hand".
The course will enable beginning draughtsmen to gain experience in studio drawing, which is a prerequisite for mastering more demanding drawing disciplines.
