Foreign Language for Doctoral Students
FaVU-3CIZIAcad. year: 2024/2025
The essence of the course is consultative instruction in a foreign language at the doctoral level, which includes reading and translating a scholarly publication related to the dissertation topic. Students are expected to read foreign-language academic publications and accurately understand the theses, ideas, and solutions presented in these texts. They are able to actively use the acquired knowledge in both written and spoken form, meaning they can describe, explain, and summarize their thoughts, opinions, and positions in their own words. Students are also capable of understanding foreign-language academic speech and responding to it spontaneously in conversation. The assessment of language skills consists of reading and translating an excerpt from a scholarly text, followed by a conversation on the topic of the studied publication related to the dissertation. For the examination, the doctoral student submits a written summary of the key technical vocabulary from the studied publication. To pass the examination successfully, the student must demonstrate an acceptable level of comprehension of the scholarly text and the ability to participate fluently and spontaneously in subject-specific discussions within their field.
