Expression of support of the LGBTIQ+ members of the academic community of FFA BUT
Dear members of the academic community of the Faculty of Fine Arts at BUT,the entire management of the faculty was shaken by the news of the fatal attacks on two people in front of the Bratislava queer bar Tepláreň, which happened on the evening of Wednesday, October 12. According to media reports, a perpetrator who held anti-Semitic, racist, homophobic and transphobic views is behind the murders. On behalf of the entire management of the faculty, I would like to express first of all my sincere condolences to all friends and families of the victims, but also the solidarity with and support of members of all minorities and especially queer communities against whom this heinous act of violence was directed.
We are saddened by the fact that this event has shaken the sense of safety of queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, nonbinary, and people with other gender identities and sexual orientations. Social security at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the BUT has become the subject of a significant reassessment in recent years and months, and the management of the faculty is trying to introduce positive structural changes in dialogue with the student community, so that nobody's dignity, physical and personality integrity are not violated and that there are no forms of discrimination or expressions of disrespect. Any forms of intolerance towards members of sexual and gender minorities have no place at our faculty and will be dealt with seriousness and forcefulness.
I have a deep understanding that the murders in Bratislava may have caused feelings of fear, danger or panic in many members of the academic community. Anyone from the faculty management and professors in whom you have confidence is available to meet and help you, or they can put you in contact with the Alfons university counseling center or other professional support and help.
On behalf of the management of FFA BUT
