Julischka Stengele will lead the Visiting Artist’s Studio at FFA during the 2024/2025 winter semester
Transdisciplinary artist, author, curator, and educator Julischka Stengele will be leading the Visiting Artist's Studio for the 2024/2025 Winter semester.
Post-studio artist Julischka Stengele's practice is project-based, interdisciplinary, formally diverse, and thematically broad. She specializes in performative, site-specific, and conceptual formats. She enjoys creating situations, atmospheres, and gatherings as a form of art. Her work often involves environmental contexts and the creation of situations and excursions.
After completing vocational training in cooking, cleaning, and serving, Julischka studied design, performance, fine arts, and cultural studies with a focus on queer and gender studies in Berlin, Helsinki, and Vienna, where she currently lives and works.
As a curator, she has realized projects such as bussiauswien.at (a public art/publication project in collaboration with Nora Mayr); the queer performance festival Femmes Against Fascism at Otto-Wagner-Spital in Vienna; and as a board member of the cultural association SALETTL, specific artist residencies on the community farm project Kleine Stadt Farm in Vienna. She regularly moderates artist talks and other discursive formats, such as panel discussions. She has been writing for the Austrian feminist magazine an.schläge since 2018.
Stengele has prepared a special concept for FaVU students titled Urban Adventures: Site-specific Art. This program, which will take place mostly outside the studio, includes practical exercises, theoretical inputs, and is open to all media. It requires active student involvement and will focus on site-specific and site-responsive art, relationality, urban explorations and interventions. It will also address the connection between body and mind with social and political issues, and explore the relationships between public and private spaces.
If you are interested in applying, please fill out the online application by September 15, 2024. For any questions, you can contact Jennifer Helia DeFelice at qvdefelice@vutbr.cz. Julischka Stengele will introduce herself to the academic community and provide details about her program in the beginning of September.
