Where Them Stray Dogs At

Who can afford to yearn for what should have remained the same when stray dogs no longer roam along the brownfields of development areas?
~
The exhibition deals with the romanticization of Belgrade as a place representing the phenomenon of post-socialist cities in the so-called Balkans. It brings together the works artists who have lived in Belgrade for certain periods of their lives, and whose views together create a commentary on the common, often essentializing, depictions of this place. The project also reflects on the position of 'Western' visitors who often approach Belgrade fascinated by urban decay and sometimes the literal toxicity of the place. However, the aim of the exhibition is not to criticize this phenomenon but to attempt to understand the processes behind the mythologization, romanticization, and, above all, the demand for alleged authenticity and genius loci.
