PODMÍNKY NEMOŽNOSTI: ZTRÁTA ČASU I/VII / CONDITIONS OF IMPOSSIBILITY: LOSS OF TIME I/VII
The “loss of time” primarily signifies a loss of faith in the future as an open dimension where we project our hopes and expectations. It also encompasses a loss of historical memory, essential for maintaining continuity with the past, and ultimately, a loss of the present as a space for meaningful action. What collapses is the conception of time as the horizon within which our desires and projects take form. Our very ability to perceive our existence as a progression from “before” to “after,” which is fundamental to subjectivity, is under threat. In the current moment, it is challenging to identify events that could galvanize collective action. Visions of the future are dominated by dystopian scenarios. The prevalence of pastiche in culture not only reflects a lack of innovative ideas but also indicates a detachment from history, where the past becomes a repository of hollow forms. When political protest is confined to immediate concerns, it risks being reduced to mere aestheticization. Contemporary art struggles to remain relevant because its “presentness” is often an extension of the status quo. Individuals whose perception of time fragments into disconnected moments find themselves trapped in a state of “permanent presence.” In today's production landscape, time is commodified, detached from the individuals who experience it, and exploited. Coupled with the influence of information and communication technologies, this acceleration of life's pace creates a profound psychological strain that many struggle to cope with.
